HOW APCE CAME TO BE -

Starting in 2012, Jon and Jackie Woodard began traveling around the U.S. attending comic cons as exhibitors.  Sadly, one thing became apparent - the focus of these large comic cons was no longer comics or the creators who make them. They decided to do their own show dedicated to comic creators- Art Pop Comic Expo.

This show was designed to be a small expo that allowed fans to meet their favorite comic creators in a more intimate setting. The very first two shows were in Jonesboro, Arkansas and were great successes. Featured guests included Kenneth Rocafort (Top Cow, DC, Marvel) Tom Nguyen (Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, IDW) Lorenzo Lizana (Lion Forge Comics) John Lucas (Marvel, Darkhorse) Esteban Valdez (Echobridge Pictures) and Kelly Williams (Dark Horse). TMNT actor Ernie Reyes Jr was also a guest the first year.

After 2 successful years in Jonesboro Arkansas, they have moved the show to Northwest Arkansas in the Fayetteville/Bentonville area.

cosplay rules

We welcome cosplayers and we're excited to see what you've created but we have a few rules as well to ensure everyone has a great experience at the con.
- Shoes are required at all times while in the public areas of the convention center. Even if a cosplay character goes barefoot, the cosplayer must wear shoes. Attendees visiting the hotel must follow their regulations about footwear.
- Costumes and daily wear shall not expose the body in such a way as to be deemed indecent exposure under Arkansas and City of Jonesboro ordinances. Private parts must be covered in an opaque material not subject to slippage or gaps. Liquid Latex or other body coatings that conform to the body will be judged on a case by case basis.
- All costumes worn within the convention center must fit through a standard doorway (36 inches). Any attendee wearing a bulky costume, or one with poor visibility, should have a handler available to escort him/her. In addition, please ensure any bulky costume is properly ventilated to prevent heat stroke.
- Metal weapons are not allowed. Objects such as swords and other weapons need to be constructed of other non hazardous material such as cardboard, plastic or other acceptable cosplay weapon material.
- No costume or prop may generate odor, smoke, or fog.
- No costumes may be realistic depictions of American Law Enforcement or current American Military uniforms, or have the words POLICE, POLICIA, SWAT, FBI, DEA, CIA or any other official Government Agency name or initials on them.
- If an official flag is used as part of a cosplay or as a prop it must be displayed with due respect.
NO EXCESSIVE BLOOD OR GORE. We respectfully request that you not show up at the con covered in blood or knives sticking out of your head. This is the first time comic con has been held in this city and we, and the city of jonesboro police department, would appreciate not having a bunch of phone calls about bloody injured people in the streets.
NO ZOMBIE COSPLAY ALLOWED AT THIS EXPO. This was a decision we made for the sake of the children that will be present at the con. We want the children to have a good time and not be scared or uncomfortable. There was the recent incident as well with a zombie walk in California - http://themix1063.com/news/030030-chaos-erupts-at-comic-con-zombie-walk/
Prop Rules and Guidelines
- Cosplay props are to be checked in with Security at the registration area before they will be allowed in the convention area.
- Security will peace-bind any props, and attendees will be required to sign a form verifying that they have read this policy and agree to follow the rules as outlined in it.
- Once an attendee has registered any props, he/she must keep them with him/her at all times while on the convention floor. If a prop is loaned to or shared with another attendee, both parties are responsible for the prop and will be held accountable for any misbehavior.
- Any violation of a peace-bind will result in an immediate loss of prop privileges.
- Attendees will not brandish, point, flail, play-fight, run with, or use their prop in any kind of threatening manner.
- Inappropriate conduct with any camera (video or photo) will be grounds for removal of convention privileges, up to and including badge revocation without a refund.

Banned Items
- Anything which is illegal in the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, or the United States.
- Any live steel weapon. “Live steel” is any kind of metal weapon that can or does hold an edge.
- No firearms or any kind of live projectile weapon.
- If Security deems a prop dangerous or harmful it will not be allowed. This will be decided on a case by case basis. We understand your hard work and respect your talents, but we must put the safety of the attendees above everything.

Allowed Items
- Large items such as wooden swords, baseball bats, or golf clubs will be allowed conditionally.
- Airsoft or Nerf guns that have a non-removable orange safety tip, do not look remotely realistic under the condition that they have their trigger mechanism peace bound and be empty of ammunition.
Consequences for Violations
- First offense is a single warning to either correct or discontinue improper behavior.
- Second offense is a full suspension of prop privileges.
- A Third and final offense will result in having your badge pulled and all convention attendance privileges revoked. We reserve the right to modify or escalate the consequences at our discretion, based on individual circumstances.
Art Pop Comic Expo strives to be lenient in our policies to allow our attendees as much freedom as possible. However, for the safety and security of everyone present at our convention we insist that our rules be followed. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please speak with any member of our staff and we will give your input our full attention.
